1 Au commencement, Dieu créa les cieux et la terre.
26 Puis Dieu dit: Faisons l'homme à notre image, selon notre ressemblance,
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
1 Ainsi furent achevés les cieux et la terre, et toute leur armée.
6 Mais une vapeur s'éleva de la terre, et arrosa toute la surface du sol.
7 L'Éternel Dieu forma l'homme de la poussière de la terre, il souffla dans ses narines un souffle de vie et l'homme devint un être vivant.
21 Alors l'Éternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, qui s'endormit; il prit une de ses côtes, et referma la chair à sa place.
22 L'Éternel Dieu forma une femme de la côte qu'il avait prise de l'homme, et il l'amena vers l'homme.
25 L'homme et sa femme étaient tous deux nus, et ils n'en avaient point honte.
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

11 L'homme au regard hautain sera abaissé, et l'orgueilleux sera humilié: l'Éternel seul sera élevé ce jour-là.
12 Car il y a un jour pour l'Éternel des armées contre tout homme orgueilleux et hautain, contre quiconque s'élève, afin qu'il soit abaissé;
22 Cessez de vous confier en l'homme, dans les narines duquel il n'y a qu'un souffle: car de quelle valeur est-il?
11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
12 For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
29 C'est de là aussi que tu chercheras l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et que tu le trouveras, si tu le cherches de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.
31 Car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, est un Dieu de miséricorde, qui ne t'abandonnera point et ne te détruira point: il n'oubliera pas l'alliance de tes pères, qu'il leur a jurée.
29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
31 (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
10 Vous vous présentez aujourd'hui devant l'Éternel, votre Dieu,
12 Tu te présentes pour entrer dans l'alliance de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, dans cette alliance contractée avec serment, et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, traite en ce jour avec toi,
13 Afin de t'établir aujourd'hui pour son peuple et d'être lui-même ton Dieu, comme il te l'a dit, et comme il l'a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.
10 Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God;
12 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into his oath, which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day:
13 That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
1 Il y avait un homme de Ramathaïm Tsophim, de la montagne d'Éphraïm, nommé Elkana,
2 Il avait deux femmes, dont l'une s'appelait Anne, et l'autre Peninna; Peninna avait des enfants, mais Anne n'en avait point.
6 Sa rivale lui prodiguait les mortifications, pour la porter à s'irriter de ce que l'Éternel l'avait rendue stérile.
8 Elkana, son mari, lui disait: Anne, pourquoi pleures-tu, et ne manges-tu pas? pourquoi ton cœur est-il attristé? Est-ce que je ne vaux pas pour toi mieux que dix fils?
9 Anne se leva, après que l'on eut mangé et bu à Silo. Le sacrificateur Éli était assis sur un siège, près de l'un des poteaux du temple de l'Éternel.
10 Et, l'amertume dans l'âme, elle pria l'Éternel et versa des pleurs.
11 Elle fit un vœu, en disant: Éternel des armées! si tu daignes regarder l'affliction de ta servante, si tu te souviens de moi et n'oublies point ta servante, et si tu donnes à ta servante un enfant mâle, je le consacrerai à l'Éternel pour tous les jours de sa vie,
17 Éli reprit la parole, et dit: Va en paix, et que le Dieu d'Israël exauce la prière que tu lui as adressée!
18 Elle dit: Que ta servante trouve grâce à tes yeux! Et cette femme s'en alla. Elle mangea, et son visage ne fut plus le même.
19 Elkana connut Anne, sa femme, et l'Éternel se souvint d'elle.
20 Dans le cours de l'année, Anne devint enceinte, et elle enfanta un fils, qu'elle nomma Samuel, car, dit-elle, je l'ai demandé à l'Éternel.
24 Quand elle l'eut sevré, elle le fit monter avec elle,
25 …ils conduisirent l'enfant à Éli.
26 Anne dit: Mon seigneur, pardon! aussi vrai que ton âme vit, mon seigneur, je suis cette femme qui me tenais ici près de toi pour prier l'Éternel.
27 C'était pour cet enfant que je priais, et l'Éternel a exaucé la prière que je lui adressais.
28 Aussi je veux le prêter à l'Éternel: il sera toute sa vie prêté à l'Éternel. Et ils se prosternèrent là devant l'Éternel.
1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah,
2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.
8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord.
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.
11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life,
17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
19 ...and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.
20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord.
24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her,
25 …and brought the child to Eli.
26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord.
27 For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28 Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there.
1 Écoutez-moi, vous qui poursuivez la justice, qui cherchez l'Éternel! Portez les regards sur le rocher d'où vous avez été taillés,
4 Mon peuple, sois attentif! Ma nation, prête-moi l'oreille! Car la loi sortira de moi, et j'établirai ma loi pour être la lumière des peuples.
5 Ma justice est proche, mon salut va paraître, et mes bras jugeront les peuples; les îles espéreront en moi, elles se confieront en mon bras.
7 Écoutez-moi, vous qui connaissez la justice, peuple, qui as ma loi dans ton cœur! Ne craignez pas l'opprobre des hommes, et ne tremblez pas devant leurs outrages.
8 …mais ma justice durera éternellement, et mon salut s'étendra d'âge en âge.
1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn,
4 Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
5 My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
8 but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
MÈre. Dieu; Principe divin et éternel; Vie, Vérité et Amour.
Mother. God; divine and eternal Principle; Life, Truth, and Love.
Dans la Science, l’homme naît de l’Esprit. Le beau, le bon et le pur constituent son ascendance. Son origine n’est pas, comme celle des mortels, dans l’instinct animal, et il ne passe pas non plus par des états matériels avant d’arriver à l’intelligence. L’Esprit est la source primitive et ultime de son être; Dieu est son Père, et la Vie est la loi de son être.
In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being.
Maintenez clairement dans votre pensée que l’homme est le rejeton de Dieu, non de l’homme; que l’homme est spirituel, non matériel; que l’Ame est l’Esprit, en dehors de la matière, jamais dans la matière, ne donnant jamais au corps vie et sensation.
Keep distinctly in thought that man is the offspring of God, not of man; that man is spiritual, not material; that Soul is Spirit, outside of matter, never in it, never giving the body life and sensation.
L’univers de l’Esprit est peuplé d’êtres spirituels, et la Science divine en est le gouvernement. L’homme est le produit, non des qualités les plus basses, mais des qualités les plus hautes de l’Entendement. L’homme comprend l’existence spirituelle dans la mesure où il augmente ses trésors de Vérité et d’Amour. Il faut que les mortels gravitent vers Dieu, que leurs affections et leurs desseins se spiritualisent — il faut qu’ils abordent les interprétations plus larges de l’être et qu’ils gagnent un sens plus juste de l’infini — afin de se dépouiller du péché et de la mortalité.
The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings, and its government is divine Science. Man is the offspring, not of the lowest, but of the highest qualities of Mind. Man understands spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward, their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality may be put off.
En avançant vers un plan d’action plus élevé, la pensée monte du sens matériel au spirituel, de la scolastique à l’inspiration, et du mortel à l’immortel. Toutes choses sont créées spirituellement. L’Entendement, non la matière, est le créateur. L’Amour, le Principe divin, est le Père et la Mère de l’univers, y compris l’homme.
Un Entendement illimité ne peut provenir de limitations physiques. Le fini ne peut présenter l’idée de l’infini ni son immensité. Un entendement qui tire son origine d’une source matérielle ou finie doit nécessairement être limité et fini. L’Entendement infini est le créateur, et la création est l’image ou idée infinie qui émane de cet Entendement.
Advancing to a higher plane of action, thought rises from the material sense to the spiritual, from the scholastic to the inspirational, and from the mortal to the immortal. All things are created spiritually. Mind, not matter, is the creator. Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man.
A limitless Mind cannot proceed from physical limitations. Finiteness cannot present the idea or the vastness of infinity. A mind originating from a finite or material source must be limited and finite. Infinite Mind is the creator, and creation is the infinite image or idea emanating from this Mind.
La Vie n’est pas dans la matière. Donc on ne peut pas dire qu’elle quitte la matière. La matière et la mort sont des illusions mortelles. L’Esprit et toutes choses spirituelles constituent le réel et l’éternel.
L’homme n’est pas le rejeton de la chair, mais de l’Esprit, de la Vie, non de la matière.
Parce que la Vie est Dieu, il faut que la Vie soit éternelle, existant en soi. La Vie est l’éternel Je suis, l’Être qui fut, qui est et qui sera, que rien ne peut effacer.
Life is not in matter. Therefore it cannot be said to pass out of matter. Matter and death are mortal illusions. Spirit and all things spiritual are the real and eternal.
Man is not the offspring of flesh, but of Spirit, — of Life, not of matter. Because Life is God, Life must be eternal, self-existent. Life is the everlasting I am, the Being who was and is and shall be, whom nothing can erase.
Il faut que, dans les affections humaines, le bien l’emporte sur le mal et le spirituel sur l’animal, sinon le bonheur ne sera jamais gagné. L’accession à cet état céleste améliorerait notre descendance, diminuerait le crime, et donnerait un but plus élevé à l’ambition. Toute vallée de péché doit être comblée et toute montagne d’égoïsme abaissée, afin que le chemin de notre Dieu soit préparé dans la Science. Les enfants dont les parents ont une mentalité spirituellement élevée héritent de qualités plus intellectuelles, d’un esprit mieux équilibré et d’une constitution plus robuste.
The good in human affections must have ascendency over the evil and the spiritual over the animal, or happiness will never be won. The attainment of this celestial condition would improve our progeny, diminish crime, and give higher aims to ambition. Every valley of sin must be exalted, and every mountain of selfishness be brought low, that the highway of our God may be prepared in Science. The offspring of heavenly-minded parents inherit more intellect, better balanced minds, and sounder constitutions.
L’honnêteté et la vertu assurent la stabilité du pacte du mariage. L’Esprit réclamera finalement ce qui lui appartient— tout ce qui existe en réalité — et les voix des sens physiques seront pour toujours réduites au silence.
L’expérience devrait être l’école de la vertu, et le bonheur humain devrait procéder de la nature la plus élevée de l’homme. Puisse le Christ, la Vérité, être présent à chaque bénédiction nuptiale pour changer l’eau en vin et donner à la vie humaine une inspiration par laquelle l’existence spirituelle et éternelle de l’homme puisse être discernée.
Honesty and virtue ensure the stability of the marriage covenant. Spirit will ultimately claim its own, — all that really is, — and the voices of physical sense will be forever hushed.
Experience should be the school of virtue, and human happiness should proceed from man's highest nature. May Christ, Truth, be present at every bridal altar to turn the water into wine and to give to human life an inspiration by which man's spiritual and eternal existence may be discerned.
Comprendre spirituellement qu’il y a un seul créateur, Dieu, cela explique toute la création, confirme les Écritures, apporte la douce assurance qu’il n’y a ni séparation ni douleur, et que l’homme est impérissable, parfait et éternel.
Si les Scientistes Chrétiens donnent à leurs propres enfants une éducation spirituelle, ils peuvent en éduquer d’autres spirituellement sans être en conflit avec le sens scientifique de la création de Dieu. Un jour l’enfant demandera à son père: «Observes-tu le Premier Commandement? As-tu un seul Dieu et créateur, ou bien l’homme est-il un créateur?» Si le père répond: «Dieu crée l’homme par l’homme», l’enfant pourra demander: «Enseignes-tu que l’Esprit crée matériellement, ou déclares-tu que l’Esprit est infini, et que par conséquent la matière est en dehors de la question?»
Spiritually to understand that there is but one creator, God, unfolds all creation, confirms the Scriptures, brings the sweet assurance of no parting, no pain, and of man deathless and perfect and eternal.
If Christian Scientists educate their own offspring spiritually, they can educate others spiritually and not conflict with the scientific sense of God's creation. Some day the child will ask his parent: "Do you keep the First Commandment? Do you have one God and creator, or is man a creator?" If the father replies, "God creates man through man," the child may ask, "Do you teach that Spirit creates materially, or do you declare that Spirit is infinite, therefore matter is out of the question?"
L’éducation entière des enfants devrait tendre à former des habitudes d’obéissance à la loi morale et spirituelle qui permet à l’enfant d’affronter et de maîtriser la croyance aux prétendues lois physiques, croyance qui engendre la maladie.
Les enfants devraient rester enfants quant aux connaissances, et ne devenir des hommes et des femmes qu’en développant leur compréhension de la nature plus élevée de l’homme.
La nature supérieure de l’homme n’est pas gouvernée par l’inférieure; s’il en était ainsi, l’ordre de la sagesse serait renversé.
The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law, with which the child can meet and master the belief in so-called physical laws, a belief which breeds disease.
Children should be allowed to remain children in knowledge, and should become men and women only through growth in the understanding of man's higher nature.
The higher nature of man is not governed by the lower; if it were, the order of wisdom would be reversed.
L’amour enrichit la nature de l’homme, l’élargissant, la purifiant et l’élevant.
Love enriches the nature, enlarging, purifying, and elevating it.
Nous apprendrons un jour comment l’Esprit, le grand architecte, a créé les hommes et les femmes dans la Science. Nous devrions nous lasser de ce qui est fugitif et faux, et ne rien chérir qui entrave en nous le moi le plus élevé.
Dans la mesure où cessera la génération humaine, la chaîne intacte de l’être éternel et harmonieux sera discernée spirituellement; et l’homme, non de la terre et terrestre, mais coexistant avec Dieu, apparaîtra. Le fait scientifique que l’homme et l’univers procèdent de l’Esprit, et qu’ils sont par conséquent spirituels, est aussi établi en Science divine que l’est la preuve que les mortels n’acquièrent le sens de la santé qu’en perdant le sens du péché et de la maladie. Les mortels ne pourront jamais comprendre la création de Dieu tant qu’ils croiront que l’homme est un créateur. Les enfants de Dieu déjà créés ne seront discernés que dans la mesure où l’homme trouvera la vérité de l’être. C’est ainsi que l’homme réel et idéal apparaît dans la proportion où disparaît ce qui est faux et matériel.
Sometime we shall learn how Spirit, the great architect, has created men and women in Science. We ought to weary of the fleeting and false and to cherish nothing which hinders our highest selfhood.
Proportionately as human generation ceases, the unbroken links of eternal, harmonious being will be spiritually discerned; and man, not of the earth earthly but coexistent with God, will appear. The scientific fact that man and the universe are evolved from Spirit, and so are spiritual, is as fixed in divine Science as is the proof that mortals gain the sense of health only as they lose the sense of sin and disease. Mortals can never understand God's creation while believing that man is a creator. God's children already created will be cognized only as man finds the truth of being. Thus it is that the real, ideal man appears in proportion as the false and material disappears.
Jésus dit en parlant des enfants de Dieu, non des enfants des hommes: «Le Royaume de Dieu est au-dedans de vous!» c’est-à-dire la Vérité et l’Amour règnent dans l’homme réel, ce qui montre que l’homme à l’image de Dieu n’est pas déchu, et qu’il est éternel.
When speaking of God's children, not the children of men, Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within you;" that is, Truth and Love reign in the real man, showing that man in God's image is unfallen and eternal.

Children. The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love.

Dans la Science, l’Amour divin seul gouverne l’homme ; et un Scientiste Chrétien reflète les douces aménités de l’Amour, en réprouvant le péché, et en manifestant un véritable esprit de fraternité, de charité et de pardon. Les membres de cette Église doivent journellement veiller et prier pour être délivrés de tout mal, pour ne pas prophétiser, juger, condamner, conseiller, influencer ou être influencés d’une manière erronée.
